I specialize in international relations theory. My work has focused on developing models of strategic interaction to explain international cooperation and conflict and on elucidating the relationship between domestic politics and foreign policy.
I served as co-editor of the American Political Science Review (2007-2012), have served on the editorial boards of International Organization, the American Journal of Political Science, and International Interactions, and now serve on the editorial board of Global Summitry.
I served on the Policy Planning Staff of the US Department of State, have been an International Affairs Fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations, and have assisted the intelligence and defense communities.
